Hello Everyone! We Hope All of You Have A Happy, Healthful
& Prosperous 2009!
Be Prepared, Protect Your Family
from being Uncomfortable and cold on those Cold Winter Nights.....Buy a
spare furnace flame sensor to have on hand. Since 1992, with the introduction of the
new High efficiency furnaces, Flame sensor failures on furnaces have become a major problem. I have seen it every year in
my HVAC business. I do not want you to be caught out in the cold!
That is why I am offering you these flame sensors at wholesale prices! We will
be adding more Furnace flame sensors in the next few weeks.
First, for those of you who might not know, "What
is a flame sensor?" A flame sensor is a safety device. When your
furnace's main burners ignite (light Up) the flame sensor picks up the heat from
the furnace's main burning and says, "YES," and sends a signal
back to the main furnace control board saying that it is OK to let the main
burner stay on. Or if the main burners do not ignite, the flame sensor
does not pick up the heat and says, "NO" to the main control board,
Shut That Gas Valve and Main Burners Down! Thank God we have safety controls
like the flame sensor. Most of the time, after
turning your furnace's power off, you may clean the flame sensors with
light sand cloth, emery cloth or steel wool. Reinstall the flame sensor and you
are back in business! Over the years flame sensors can build up a light coating
of burned-in dust and dirt. This insulates the flame sensor so that it doesn't
sense the heat of the flame well enough, so by cleaning it you have almost
restored it to its new condition. Seldom, but sometimes they do go out
completely. Below we have various furnace name brand flame sensors with an
opportunity for you to purchase. It might be worth having a spare on hand.
* Note: I have seen other furnace
control devices, such as pressure switches and control boards cause ignition
problems. Many times it is a dirty or bad flame sensor.

Problem:
Your furnace main burner ignites, the main
burner stays on for 8 to 10 seconds, then shuts right back off. Your furnace
tries this ignition sequence again, and the same thing happens. After 3 times
the furnace goes into lock out, and the only way to get it out of lock out is to
turn the power switch off and on. Everything starts over again without ignition
of your gas burners.
Solution:
First, turn off the power to your furnace.
Next, remove the screw or screws that hold your flame sensor in. Please
do not confuse the flame sensor with an Ignitor. We do not want to touch
the ignitor at all. If you touch an ignitor it will shorten the life of the
ignitor or it will break. Below this paragraph I have a picture comparing an
ignitor with a flame sensor. Clean your flame sensor with light sand paper,
steel wool or emery cloth. You
might need a new flame sensor, but most of the time they can be cleaned and your
furnace will
work well after cleaning. I have seen flame sensor go out. Most of the time when
they go out the white porcelain is cracked. You might want to have a spare flame
sensor on hand. Below are pictures of various furnace manufacturer's flame
sensors with an opportunity for you to purchase. We will be adding more flame
sensors as time goes on.
Below
is a picture to help you identify what a flame sensor looks like and what an
ignitor looks like. Below is a
picture comparing flame sensors on the left with an ignitor on the right. We do
not want to touch the gray glass part of the ignitor or it will shorten its life
or break.
