Problem:
Your furnace will not ignite the gas to produce heat for your home. When a
furnace has a bad ignitor what I see most of the time is the following sequence
of operation:
1.
Thermostat calls for heat.
2.
Draft inducer motor starts.
3.
Pressure switch attached by a small plastic or rubber tube senses the negative
pressure produced by the draft inducer and closes.
4.
Draft inducer runs for 30 seconds to a minute before you hear a gas hissing
sound. The ignitor did not glow, the flame sensor (a small metal probe about
1/8" in diameter, with a white porcelain base) does not sense the flame, so
after 8 to 10 seconds the hissing sounds stops with no ignition of gas to heat
your home. Your furnace shuts down and goes into a lock out condition until you
turn your power switch back off and on again.
Solution:
Sorry, but you need to purchase and install a new ignitor.
Below
we have pictures of Ignitors that many Bryant & Carrier furnaces have
installed in them, with an opportunity for you to purchase.
Below
is a scanned picture of various Ignitor Ceramic Block Styles & Terminal
Block Styles.

Bryant, Carrier
LH33ZS004 Hot Surface Ignitor:
The Bryant, Carrier Ignitor
pictured below replaces most Bryant, Carrier & Trane IGN 26 ignitors. It is
Bryant Carrier Part # LH33ZS 004 & LH33ZS 003. I called my Bryant & Carrier
supplier. My supplier said, "this ignitor is the most popular ignitor, and is
used in 2,572 Bryant, Carrier furnaces." This Ignitor has a Norton 271M on the plug.
The ignitor has a block style "C" and a terminal connector
"D." Below we have pictures of the ignitor with an opportunity
for you to purchase. The ignitor comes in a well
packed box with padding. Please click the "Add to Cart"
button below to purchase:

One part that you might need....I hope you do not. I thought
that I would add this bracket to our site because I have
bent a few of the brackets installing the ignitors in the Bryant Plus 90 and
90I furnaces. Sometimes you have to bend the ignitor bracket holder back to get
the ignitor out. I have bent these before where the bracket will no longer hold
the ignitor secure enough. Below is a picture of the bracket with an opportunity
for you to purchase if you think you might need one. Thanks!

Bryant, Carrier
LH33ZG001 Hot Surface Ignitor:
This ignitor is found on the newer Bryant Carrier furnaces.
This ignitor is used in 354 Bryant Carrier Furnaces.
This is a nitride ignitor and has a terminal block style letter "A".
Please click here if you would like to view a PDF file that shows the
furnace model numbers where this ignitor is used. Below we
have pictures with an opportunity for you to purchase.

Bryant Carrier Standing Pilots:
The two pilots that we have listed below are found on many of
the older Bryant & Carrier Furnaces. One type has three wires coming out of
it and the other has only two wires. Sometimes the pilot becomes dirty and
inoperative. The pilot senses the heat of the pilot flame, then sends a closed
circuit signal back to the main gas valve saying that it is OK to open the main gas
valve because there is a pilot flame present. If the pilot is dirty your furnace's main gas valve will click off and
on, or may not open at all. Make sure
you have a nice blue flame. If you have a yellow flame the pilot probably needs
cleaning. I turn the gas and electricity off on the
furnace, then take compressed air to blow the dirt out of the pilot. Most
of the time this works, but sometimes you will need to remove the pilot for
cleaning. Sometimes these pilots become inoperative and you will need a new one.

*For Your Information: When handling &
installing ignitors never touch the gray glass part of the ignitor. Handle &
install the ignitor using the white porcelain part of the ignitor. If you touch
the gray glass, it could shorten the life of the ignitor. Ignitors are very
fragile. If you drop it or hit it against something the ignitor will easily
break.
